A premier broadcast transition (Player Bump) originally developed around Patrick Mahomes for Sunday Night Football. This project evolved from a high-concept character study into a cornerstone production template used to feature elite players across the NFL for the league’s most-watched broadcast. Because the NFL season moves rapidly, the system needed to be robust enough to allow for a “plug-and-play” workflow where new player imagery could be integrated weekly.

Template Architecture: I rebuilt the initial Mahomes concept into a master After Effects project. This involved creating automated “pre-comps” where player photography could be dropped in, instantly inheriting the established 3D tracking, edge lighting, and depth-of-field settings.
Asset Integration: Once the base Mahomes version was perfected with 4K imagery and refined rotoscoping, we used it as the visual benchmark. I then developed the workflow for swapping out player assets, ensuring the “rim light” and shadows adapted to different player silhouettes.
3D Environmental Optimization: Using Cinema 4D and After Effects, I optimized the background stadium textures and volumetric light rays so they remained “render-light” for the quick turnarounds required during the NFL season.
Lasting impact
What started as a single player feature became the primary vehicle for player introductions on Sunday Night Football. The template allowed the NBC Sports team to deliver a consistent, high-end “Gold Standard” look for every team in the league, regardless of the tight production windows between game weeks.
