I can’t be the only one suffering from 2024 Olympics withdrawal…can I?
To channel that inspiration, I modeled, textured, and animated a detailed recreation of the medal, using various reference images to ensure accuracy. This project served as an enjoyable creative exercise in 3D design and animation.
Technical Modeling: Built the medal in Cinema 4D, using reference imagery from the Summer Games to ensure the proportions of the hexagonal center and the radiating ridges were physically accurate.
Material Surfacing: Developed custom shaders to mimic the distinctive dual-texture of the medal. I focused on the “Parisian” lighting effect—where the metal is cut to reflect light like a gemstone—by using high-contrast metallic maps.
Composition: Rendered the medal in a series of macro shots and dynamic rotations to highlight the depth of the engraving and the interplay of light across the different metal surfaces.
A portfolio-grade 3D asset that demonstrates advanced look-development skills and a keen eye for material accuracy. The final renders provide a polished, celebratory tribute to the Paris Games.
